Camping bottom of Corn Trail

EQUIPMENT LIST

This list is an extract from a fuller list that contains items of personal preference like preferred clothes, air mattress, whisky etc. On the 5-day hike at Easter 2019 each of us carried packs weighing 16 kg. As stated elsewhere careful assessment needs to made of the likely weather conditions to manage extremes of temperature in particular.

  • tent

  • sleeping bag

  • water bottles (3 litres each person)

  • water purifier tablets and gauze strainer

  • fuel stove (lightweight gas)

  • matches, lighter, paper

  • pot pan cup

  • plate, cutlery, knife

  • food

  • head-torch

  • sunblock

  • insect repellant

  • first-aid kit

  • boots or hiking shoes. Good soles but heavy style not necessary

  • Walking poles for those that need downhill support

  • raincoat (lightweight)

  • 6 Maps (NSW 1:25 000 topographic) as a minimum - (in this order)

       Hoskinstown 8727-2S,

       Bombay 8827-3S

       Braidwood 8827-2S

       Monga 8826-1N

       Araluen 8826-1S

       Nelligen 8926-4S

  • Compass

  • Personal Locator Beacon* (PLB)

  • mobile phone*

*PLB - most of the route has reasonable phone coverage however this is not so for the valley of the Corn Trail. Having a PLB which can be purchased at camping shops or rented from National Parks is advisable but not essential.

*Mobile phone coverage is reasonable overall and maybe good enough for people to use mapping apps. Management of power backup is essential
